CHILI

Chuquicamata Copper Mine: is located 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago.

The mine has been owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalisation of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Its depth of 850 m (2,790 ft) makes it the 2nd deepest open-pit mine in the world.

Gabriela Mistral Copper Mine: is located in the region of Antofagasta, district of Sierra Gorda, located 120 km southwest of Calama and at 2,660 m above sea level.

It has an estimated 620 million tons of oxide ore grading 0.41% copper on average. The mine started production in 2008 and it is operated by Minera Gaby S.A.

It is an open-pit mine with autonomous mining trucks. The production process involves different stages: crushing (primary, secondary and tertiary.)

Minera Gaby S.A. is the first mining operation in the world to only use autonomous trucks to haul mineral, and its technology is constantly being assessed and monitored.
