Santa Rita Copper Mine: is located 195 miles SW of Albuquerque, 15 miles E of Silver City.

The Santa Rita Mine is one of the oldest continuously operating mines in the west. A natural landform called the Kneeling Nun, a hillside said to resemble a kneeling nun in profile, looms above the open pit. The town of Santa Rita was moved to make way for the mine.

Empire and Tilden Mines: are located in the Marquette Iron Range in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in Palmer, Michigan.

The Empire and Tilden Mines operate separate mining pits and iron ore processing facilities, but share a single management structure. The LS&I Railroad is also part of these jointly managed operations. The Empire Mine has been mining and processing the low-grade iron ore reserves on the Marquette Iron Range since the early 1960s.

Northshore Iron Ore Mine: is located on the Mesabi Iron Range. Mining is done in Babbitt, Minnesota, on the north-eastern end of the Mesabi iron formation; while processing facilities are located in Silver Bay, Minnesota. It originally operated as the Reserve Mining Company ,and was the first taconite processing facility in North America when it opened in 1955. After Reserve filed for bankruptcy in 1986, the plant was downsized to 4.8 million tons per year capacity and reopened in 1990 as Northshore Mining Company.
