FEATURED MINING COMPANY
SHERRITT INTERNATIONAL
CUBA
Moa Joint Venture Nickel Mine: is located in the south-eastern regions of Cuba.
The Moa Joint Venture was established in 1994 and produced 33,599 tons of nickel and 3,721 tons of cobalt in 2009.
Moa Nickel uses an open-pit mining process to mine lateritic nickel and cobalt ore, which are processed onsite into mixed sulphides containing nickel and cobalt.
These mixed sulphides are shipped to the east coast of Canada, where they are then transported by train to Sherritt's Fort Saskatchewan facility for refining into finished nickel and cobalt.
Currently, the Moa Joint Venture produces approximately 37,000 tons of nickel and cobalt annually.
