HOCHSCHILD MINING

MEXICO

Moris Mine: is located in the Moris district of Chihuahua, Mexico. The mineralisation represents low sulphidation quartz/sulphide epithermal veins with gold and silver values and is mined by open-pit methods.

Hochschild owns 100% of Moris following the purchase of the remaining 30% stake from its JV partner, EXMIN, in May 2009. 

Moris commenced production in the third quarter of 2007 and produced 86 thousand oz of silver and 22 thousand oz of gold in 2010. The plant operates at a capacity of 3,000 tons per day.

Pilbara Iiron Ore: operations have an annual capacity of 220 million tons, with advanced plans to increase capacity to 283 million tons by 2013, on a pathway to 333 million tons.

With a network of 14 mines, three shipping terminals and the largest privately owned heavy freight rail network in Australia, Pilbara operations make up a major part of Rio Tinto’s iron ore activities globally.

The operations began in 1966 and are well positioned to meet the growing needs of the world's iron and steel industry.

Social and Labour Planning and Sustainability Analysis

Dr Tanya Marie Robinson  (MWiMSA)

Dr Robinson is a specialist in the field of social labour planning (SLP) in the mining industry and has extensive knowledge on focussing in all areas encompassing social labour plans e.g. human resources development programmes - Skills Development Plan (SDP), Adult Basic Education Training (ABET) exploration, internship and bursary scheme intervention, regional and health assessments, mentorship plan evaluations, employment equity progress and assessing the position of women in mining; Community development and empowerment- assessing community consultation and involvement, exploring social investments, community training, and measuring housing and living conditions, assessing stakeholder engagement, focussing and evaluating family functioning with regard to living conditions, upgrading of community residence, and home ownership evaluation, focussing on general village/town assessments; Evaluating procurement and procurement progression plans; and assessing ownership and joint venture plans. Dr Robinson is committed in delivering plans that is analysed to present a report that is transparent, well organised, planned and that present the clients contribution and involvement within their operation.

Dr Tanya Robinson holds the following qualifications that contribute to her analysis expertise:

BA Psych (SW) (Stell) and majored in the field of psychology, social work and sociology. 

MSD (UP) that focussed specifically on community health related matters and the social wellbeing of women and children. 

NEC (UNISA) that specifically focused on education and training of individuals, groups and community members.

AHS (UNISA) that concentrated specifically on clinical health and social wellbeing.   

DPhil (Stell) that weredirected on social dynamics including family and community functioning within the society with a post modernistic systemic approach. 

PhD (NWU)concentrated on the rights of the child and African legal instrument that can be applied with regard to family functioning and optimisation in the broader community. 

Dr Robinson is furthermore a key player in the multidisciplinary team of Tacmin Madini and as a group we focus on high value added mining business solutions.  The twelve years of experience that Dr Robinson has in solution focussed operations makes her a specialist in her field that adds value in the field of analysis in mining operations.
